'Thirst Fridays' until 'The Second Coming'

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
The words above are from Matthew 9: 14-17 and they indicate that fasting is sometimes communal rather than always a private devotion by an individual.
Back in February, we posted our first article on 'Thirst Fridays' where unlike the passage above, we saw in the book of Esther a crystal clear example of godly, communal fasting rather than an indication of it.
The Scripture above brings a different clear point that we want to highlight for this new post whilst we also stand on the messages we brought in the Esther post.
The Lord Jesus makes it clear that fasting was not needed (or at least not needed as much) whilst He was with His disciples but that simultaneously challenges us that it is needed now He is not here and of course other Scriptures affirm that.
As expressed in the Esther post, I encourage you to join us in fasting (at least from one hot drink each Friday) and use that time to pray for this broken, desperate world we live in to turn to The Lord Jesus and be transformed by His tremendous grace.
It's a BIG aim but may we aim to at least do this together as the worldwide LHM Team until He returns!
NOTE- if you pray for LHM matters of concern, you're on the LHM team!
Thank you in advance if you choose to join us in this and even more so if you already are!

For now, keep an eye on this LHM website and our social media pages for ideas on how to pray and from September 2026 onwards, each Friday evening you will find weekly LHM headlines to give you more of a full tank of fuel for prayer.
